Pewaukee RiverRun
Competition
River Cleanup
The Pewaukee
RiverRun canoe and kayak race began in 1973 by several businessmen in
the quiet Village of Pewaukee.
The purpose
was twofold: to bring attention to the beauty of the Pewaukee River that
can only be seen from the river and to clean the river yearly to
preserve that beauty.
And it's
grown to what it is today.
For the past
35 years, the last Saturday in April is set aside for this event. The
winners are determined by elapsed time and six different classes to make
competing fair to all. Serious competitors, families and just-for-fun
enthusiasts enjoy the paddle.
The 6-mile
race begins in Pewaukee at Hammel Machine Products on East Wisconsin
Avenue (Hwy M) at the river, and ends at the Rotary Building and Tower
in Frame Park, Waukesha. The Pewaukee River joins the Fox River about a
mile upstream from Frame Park.
The race is
one of the Pewaukee Kiwanis Club's main fund raisers. The entry fee for
each canoe is $25 with all monies raised benefiting Pewaukee.
The annual
race attracts about 150 canoes with hundreds of spectators at the start,
along the river and at Frame Park. Food and beverages are available at
the park along with a roaring fire to dry out any damp canoeists.
Set aside the
last Saturday in April now for this fun event. You can print a copy of
the registration form here.
